Seven Days of Steampunk

Nimbus: A Steampunk Novel by Austin King and B.J. KeetonToday marks something special. In just seven short days, on May 1, 2012,  Nimbus: A Steampunk Novel is going live on Amazon.com.

So today is the first day of a super-awesome countdown we like to call “Seven Days of Steampunk.” Over the course of the next seven days, we’ll have free fiction, articles, ebook giveaways, articles, secrets (secrets!), and various other goodies about Nimbus and steampunk in general.

Nimbus is a serialized steampunk fantasy novel written collaboratively by Austin King and B.J. Keeton. The first installment (of four!) will be available as a Kindle ebook (for only $2.99!), and weekly serial installments will appear right here at Professor Beej.

The project started as an experiment and came out of our desire to do something new and interesting with ebook technology. The story is meant to be fun and exciting, dealing with a wide variety of goodies–from airships to demon possession–and is full of mystery, intrigue, humor, drama, and has been quoted by one of the authors as being “awesome enough to make Quentin Tarantino poop his pants.”

The story follows Jude Finley, a new recruit aboard the Gangly Dirigible, an airship that extracts water from rainclouds. Having only lived above the Skyline for a year, Jude is still getting used to the way things work in the world above the clouds. While working aboard the airship, Jude and his friends uncover a secret which may or may not help them against a growing uprising that could spell doom for everyone on the planet. Meanwhile, Demetrius Rucca, wheelchair-bound son of a prominent religious leader, begins recruiting followers for his own subversive cause. As allegiances are sworn to him and his followers grow, he begins to discover the new powers that lie within him. This power could be the salvation Demetrius is looking for–or it could be the destruction of the known world.

Sounds awesome, huh?

So come back tomorrow for Day 2 of “Seven Days of Steampunk” and an all-new piece of short fiction titled “Cat’s Eye” set in the Nimbus universe.
