Whoops…

So in my nervous scatterbrainedness of the past few days, I forgot to upload a draft of today’s post before going out of town. I have it written and ready to be edited, but it sits in my “Ideas and Drafts” folder on my computer at home, and I’m out of town until late this evening.

I’m sorry about that, but let me explain why.

You see, I proposed to my girlfriend last night. She happily accepted, and we’re now engaged. We’re happy about it, and we had discussed doing it prior to my popping the question, but I was a nervous wreck for the two days prior to actually doing it, so a few things got left undone and unfortunately one of those things was remembering my blog schedule. I plan on writing up a blog with pictures of the proposal (it was a very unique event, if I do say so myself), so I hope you all enjoy that when I get the opportunity to stop running (we’re picking out the ring together today) and get back into a normal schedule, which should be tomorrow afternoon.

On top of that, we saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the theater’s first midnight showing. It was a fantastic movie based on what is my favorite book of the series. Here’s my Twitter review: “Harry Potter 6: A fantastic movie based on my favorite HP book. Funny, witty, and charming, but it emphasized my least favorite parts.” While the movie was spectacularly well-made and enjoyable, what made the book so fabulous in my mind was that it was more serialized and dark (it was the Harry Potter version of The Two Towers or The Empire Strikes Back) so I went in expecting a much darker film than I watched. It was still fun, and I think is one of the strongest entries in the series. I expect a fuller write up to materialize this weekend regarding expectations/impressions of the movie.

Anyway, I wanted to let you guys know why I’m a bit behind–midnight showing of Harry Potter + getting engaged = addled Beej.

  1. Congrats on the Engagement. thanks for the mini review, now I can properly rachet down my expectations as well.

  2. Thanks, all. I'm still really nervous but happy. I appreciate the well-wishes.

We went and picked out a ring together today (which luckily came in under budget, so now I can go ahead and buy the wedding band she's picked out without breaking the bank), and it has to be resized to fit her, which should take around a week. Pics of it will come after that.

  3. Congratulations!

A week to resize the ring? Pff, I can do that in five minutes with the right tools. Of course, there's no guarantee it will work… 😉
