So It’s Christmas…

I’ve been saying to myself for a while that I need to start writing again. I’m in the middle of my directed readings (pretty close to dead center of my list, actually, so middle is quite appropriate) to finish my M.A. in May, so I’m having to write quite a bit about what I’m reading. But that’s entirely different. As much as I love my academic writing, I never feel the connection to it that I feel when I write something creatively, be it a short story, a blog, a note, whatever.

So this is my Christmas present to myself. I set up a blog at Blogger/Blogspot and set it to import upon publication to my Facebook account (which I hope I have set up correctly). Now I have a place to write where people (hopefully) will read it. I can’t promise what it’s going to be about; it could very well be about the TV shows I’m watching, the books I’m reading, the classes I’m teaching, or the games I’m playing. It might be about life, it might be about love, and it might be about radioactive emus from Mars, who knows? What I do know is that if I ever want to feel completely good with myself, I’ve got to start writing again. And the best way to start is with baby-steps.

My life is going to get exceptionally hectic in the Spring semester (in about two and a half weeks), so I need to be able to carve myself a little “me” time out of it and do this. I need to write; I want to write, and the only way I can do that is with discipline. So if you don’t see a post from me at least once a week, I want you to bug me about it. I want to hear that I’ve not posted SOMETHING.

And yeah, I suppose this is the obligatory “This is what my blog is about” post that almost everyone does, and I’m sorry for that. But it’s Christmas Eve, and I feel like writing before going and settling in with Stephen King’s IT for an hour or so. I need to get back to my writing, so you guys and gals who take the time to read this, I thank you. I hope I’m at least a little interesting in my ideas when I finally get around to putting them on paper.

I have a couple of ideas in my head for posts/notes I’ve really been tossing around for a while in my head, so watch for them.

I hope you all have a very Happy Christmas.
